The Tales of Raven and Mearth
Chapter 1: Birth-it begins
Nevara and his wife,Eissaka were waiting in their little home with a doctor. Eissaka was pregnant. The strange relationship between Nevara and Eissaka was Nevara was a dark elf and Eissaka was a light elf.
They met each other in the dark woods where Nevara had made his life for seventeen years. That was nothing considering the long lives of drow.
Eissaka was traveling around in the woods when she saw the glow of a fire. She went to it and saw the drow. She was a little hesitant from all the stories she heard about dark elves, but were these stories really true? Curiosity got the best of Eissaka as she walked up to the drow.
"What do you want?" The dark elf asked. She was surprised. For one, she was looking at a dark elf. Two, he could speak perfect surface tongue. She answered, "I'm just a traveler and came to see if I could make camp here." He just sat there. She started to feel unwelcome so she started to turn away, when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Shivers went up her spine, her legs felt like giving out. She couldn't believe he was touching her! She didn't even notice him get up...
Then he said, "Sit down, I haven't had company in years." She sat down with him and all night they talked. He talked about meeting Argus and living with the unusual dwarf, he even told her about the death of the kind dwarf. He mentioned it was a fierce creature, some what of a raven and dragon mix, with powers beyond his knowledge. Even the knowledgeable dwarf fell victim to this awesome creature. Finally, she told him about her purpose of being out in the woods. She was looking for her missing companions which she believed where taken by the the giant king "garnet bloodshed". She went to go get them back. Right then and there Nevara chose to go along with her to help her with her dangerous task.
During this time of tracking down her lost companions, their friendship grew to more than that. They started traveling together, finding dangerous missions or tasks to over come. This time period was of growth and relationship for which the two became very close. After all their adventures they finally settled down. She even disobeyed her parents, for they felt it wasn't proper for her to marry a drow.
Now, here they were, about to give birth to their first child. They named him Raven. He was unlike any other elf in the world. He had black hair, emerald green eyes, and ashen skin. He was a rare breed, for light elves and dark elves despise each other and would rarely breed with each other.
Nevara was so happy he kissed his wife and smiled. Always she wondered what it was that made her husband so far apart from the other drow. Nevara never talked about his past, and Eissaka never pushed to find out. She knew his past must have been horrible for all the scars she had seen on his body.
She loved Nevara so much. She lay there on the bed with a smile on her face as Nevara held their new son. Their special son who was half elf and half drow.
At the age of 1 Raven was walking and knew a few words. He would take things from the environment and create things with his creative imagination. At the age of 2, he could already form sentences, and his craft skill became more advanced.
Chapter 2: An addition-family findings
One year later....
Nevara was out hunting one morning. He went deep into the woods in search of large prey. He had already claimed three rabbits and a small doe. He was walking back when he heard crying coming from one of the fallen trees. He put down his game and headed off searching for the sound, when he came to a black oak tree with a hollow trunk. At first Nevara thought it was a fox but when he grabbed it and pulled it out of the trunk of the tree, he noticed it was in fact a child. This was no ordinary child. It was not human, elven, or any other type of creature that Nevara had ever seen. It had a wolf tail and ears, his eyes were a strange shade of purple. They almost seemed to glow. The only thing Nevara could think of was to take him home.
Eissaka noticed two figures coming out of the woods. It was her husband and something holding his hand. When they got closer, she noticed it was a small boy. But strangely, unlike any other boy she had ever seen. For she noticed the strange features that she couldn't place on any breed she knew. She ran inside and grabbed some food from the dinner that she had made and handed it to the boy when they got in.
They let the boy eat while they discussed where and what the boy was. When neither of them could come up with an explanation, they came back out. They had decided they would question the boy. "And what is your name little boy?", she asked getting on her knees and smiling softly at the boy. Surprisingly, the boy answered! "Mearth...I think...", he said, unsure. A small black object was jolting out of his pocket. "Whats that?" Nevara asked, gesturing to the object. Mearth took out a small black tool. "My flute!", Mearth exclaimed. Raven walked out, rubbing his eyes. "Puppy!" he exclaimed, and ran up and hugged Mearth. Mearth shot back with a yelp "Get away from me!!!" he yelled. Raven sat down in shock "The puppy talked, mommy!" "I'm not a puppy!" Mearth cried. "Raven, this is Mearth" Eissaka said slowly. "Ya, not puppy." Mearth pouted, crossing his arms and sticking his tongue out at Raven. Raven patted Mearth on the head. "Whatever, puppy". Mearth growled but said nothing. "Now now boys", Nevara said, cutting in, "Stop it". Mearth nodded slowly "yes sir". Eissaka replied "Maybe you two should get to bed, its way past bed time". "Where am I going to sleep?" mearth asked. "With Raven, of coarse." Eissaka replied.
The next morning...
Mearth was sitting on a small boulder with his legs crossed ,his ears flat, and his tail motionless, meditating. Raven came running up out out of nowhere and tackled Mearth off of the rock "Whatcha doin?" he asked. "Training my mind." Mearth said in pain. "Wanna play a game?" Raven asked, "Depends what game." Mearth answered with a wide grin. "Oh, I don't know. What do you like to do?" Raven questioned Mearth. "Run." Mearth repleyed simply. Raven picked Mearth up. "Lets get going!" Raven shouted, taking off. Mearth was right behind him, and in a matter of seconds was beside him and then just a few steps ahead. Raven picked up the pace and got a few steps ahead of mearth, and thus the challenge began...
"Got you this time!" Mearth said, sprinting a good couple of feet ahead of Raven. Raven just grinned. Mearth nodded and turned his attention ahead of him. He bent lower to the ground to pick up speed and made the gap wider. Raven just continued to smile, knowing he could close the gap easily. After a few minutes, Mearth began to slow down, tiring out. Raven ran up beside him. "What's wrong?" he shot a quick grin, "Tired?". "Says the elven kid" Mearth laughed, trying to pick up the pace and and getting a few more feet ahead. Raven runs up next to him again. "That all you got?" he took a few more good feet ahead of Mearth, then slowed back down. "I win" he said, tackling Mearth down the hill and into the lake. Raven got out first and saw a girl sitting under a tree, staring over at them with her bright blue eyes and flawless features. Mearth crawled out of the water "What was-" he stopped, noticing his brother staring off. He looked in the direction he was staring and saw her then looked back at Raven "Why haven't you ever told me about her?" Mearth laughed, Raven ignored the comment and walked slowly over to her. Mearth huffed and went back into the water "Whatever, I'll get dinner".
Raven walked up to her and just stood there staring. "Well, since your not going to say hi, I guess I will." the elven girl said. "Oh um uh hi" Raven replied. "What's your name?" she asked. "Raven Kalba." he replied again. Mearth's head shot up out of the water. "Mearth Kalba." he said before diving in again. Raven slapped himself on the head and muttered something, shaking his head. "So, you two are brothers? You really don't look it..." she said softly. Raven explained, as well as he could, on how mearth came into the family. "So what's your story; who are you?" he asked "Samoria Soitsa." she replied shyly. "I got you now!" Mearth said, coming up out of the water wrapped around a huge fish, then splashing back in, drenching the two in water. "So you're an elf?" Samoria said, shivering "You don't look it". Raven, who was already wet, just replied, "Well, I'm not a normal breed. I"m actually half drow and half elf". Semoria's eyes opened wide. "You're half drow!?" she exclaimed. "Ya my father is Nevara Kalba." he said, looking down. After learning all this, Semoria kept questioning about drows. If they where evil, what they where like and such things. But all Raven could say was that he didn't know, for his father never talked about it. Mearth now walked out of the water, carrying the fish by its tail "Can I get some help over here?" he asked in a strained voice.
mearth sat on one of the boulders, messing around with his flute, which for some reason he knew naturally. For some reason he knew that there was something unique about the flute, the only thing he could really place in his life before Raven. Every day he would play the flute while Raven was going through his training. While playing a beautiful tune on the flute, he thought about how strange it was that even though they came from two completely different breeds, how alike they where. They where always excited and happy when nothing was going on, but when the situation called for it they would both be completely serious. What made Mearth think the most was that in all his time here, he had never heard about WHAT he was. He knew he wasn't elf or drow and no one could place where he truly got his features from. But little did he know he was going to find out soon enough...
Mearth jumped on top of his sleeping brother. "GUESS WHAT!!!!" Mearth yelled. "I don't want to get up" Raven said, groggily looking out the window. "its pitch black!" he said, closing his eyes again. "You really don't know do you!?" Mearth asked. "How about we say I don't care?" he said, turning his head "Fine, I get all the cake." Mearth said, jumping off of Raven "And you know mom's cooking is good". "Cake?" Raven said, shooting up out of bed and running out the door. "HEY!" mearth yelled, running after him.
"Happy Birthday!" Eissaka and Nevara yelled, hugging their kids. After the hugs Mearth and Raven ran straight to the cake. Raven picked up one of his training swords and sliced the cake down the middle. They finished it in a matter of seconds. Mearth and Raven started to head outside to do their chores. "Hey, wait a minute." Nevara called to them. "I have something for you two." he said, handing two long boxes to them. "You want to go first?" Mearth asked Raven "Sure." Raven said, throwing open his box. Inside where the two scimitars Nevara had made in his years with Argus, and a small medallion. "What's this?" Raven asked, picking up the trinket "I...I don't know it seems so familiar...but so faint...." Nevara shook his head, then shrugged. "You can have it though." Mearth opened up his box and inside lay a black and tinted red-gray animanite sword that was straight and curved at the point at the end, the pommel was in the weirdest shape Mearth had ever seen. It looked like it had a claw facing the handle. "Where did you get this?!" Mearth exclaimed, looking at the big blade. "How am I suppose to use this?" he asked. "Just grab the handle." Nevara said simply. Mearth reached and grabbed the handle and the blade shrank some. "Sweet!" Mearth yelled, pulling it out of the box. "Can I make it any length!?" Nevara nodded. Mearth's eyes grew wide. "But its harder to control than you think." Nevara warned, "Its like the sword has a mind of its own, you have to convince it to grow." Raven walked up to his dad and gave him a hug. "Thanks." After Raven let go, Mearth tackled Nevara to the ground. "ttthhhhhaaaaaaaannnnnkkkkkk you!!!!!!!!!" he yelled, "your the best dad anyone could ever want!" tears of joy streamed from mearths eyes as he got up "do you have a sheath for me?" mearth asked. "look back in the box" raven said rolling his eyes. mearth ran back to the box and saw it, it had been laying under the sword "oh.." mearth blushed lightly "sorry?" both mearth and raven ran out side with their new items.
"I'm going to the lake" mearth said to his brother "got to see if I can make this thing obay me". "you do that I'll stay" he lied, he actualy followed mearth every time mearth went off on his own. raven shadowed him to protect him if anything went wrong...
a few minutes later mearth was standing by the lake "grow now" he growled to the sword but nothing happend "what!?" mearth yelled at it "take that back!!" he slamed the sword on the ground "now grow!" he said as he still kept beating it agenst the ground the sword did grow but since it was facing the ground it struck in and threw mearth back then shrunk down to normal size. mearth got back up "you think your so smart don't you?" he growled.
"haven't you ever thought of being gentle?" she said coming from behind the tree. mearth fell to the ground "where did you come from!?" he said gasping "all you elfs are the same I can't hear you coming!" raven comes out from behind the other tree and picks mearth up "what the hell!!!!" mearth yelled again turning his head to see his brother "you said you where staying!" mearth pouted. raven droped him "mabey I changed my mind". mearth growled when he hit the ground "what was that for?" mearth yelled again. "I thought pussy cats always landed on their feet" raven remarked. mearth jumped up and tackled raven to the ground "take that back" mearth growled angered. raven tossed mearth off with ease then got up and before mearth could get up raven sat on his back. "I got something for you idiot" he said taking off the medalion and puting it around mearths neck "it matchs your flute". it was true the small black stone was the exact same shade as mearths flute. "but dad gave this to you!" mearth yelled "well I'm giving it to you" raven replyed geting up and walking to samoria. "well hello again" raven said smiling. samoria blushed lightly "s-same here" she stuttered. "raven and samoria sitting under a tree" mearth sang. raven glared at mearth and samoria giggled. "she agrees with me" mearth gave a wide grin and a wink the dove into the lake. raven walked past samoria and layed agenst the tree. Samoria slowly walked over and sat by him her eyes never leaving him. "so tell me about your parents what are they like?" raven asked. samoria shruged "my father met my mother when she was attacked by a orc hored" she explained "years after they fell in love and then I was born" then she said "my father is very protective of me and my mother shes relaxed and calm and normaly takes care of things around the house" she sighed "and if my father ever found out about you... I would never be able to see you again.." a tear formed in her eye "what do you mean?" raven asked in a almost whisper. "my father knows of your father..and well... thats one of the reasons he's protective fearing that your father is evil.... just because hes a drow!" samoria started to cry. "FISH!' mearth said wraped around another huge one as they came up out of the water "PARANA FISH" mearth said jumping off of it heaving for air he zoomed out of the water after a few seconds of catching his breath mearths body became rigid "I smell something" he said seriously. just as that line came out of mearths mouth something in the tree grabed samoria before anyone could act. mearth instantly went for his blade "there is a life in danger now grow please!" as mearth said please the blade grew to 15 times its original size a loud screach filled the air and a wing fell to the ground as the wing fell the tenticles blasted off of it mearth dodged a few of them but one of them struck him and he flew into the tree knocked out. ravens blades where also in his hands when samoria was taken but being more trained the mearth knew to hold back and see what the creature was. the creature was a driba a bird that had tenticles sprouting out various parts of its body the tenticles had a poison that knocked the person they touch out on contact. three of the tenticles wraped around raven, who remained consious a green aura surounded his body emiting from the snake sword. raven riped the tenticles to pices in fast swift movements. "go raven" mearth murred waking up "up for another round?" he said holding out his sword the sword shot out again cliping off the other wing the creature as it fell it droped samoria. raven was quick to catch the unconsious elf he layed her agenst the tree. mearth used what skill he did have with a sword to fight off the tenticles from reaching his brother "can I get help mr.hero?" mearth laughed to his brother. Raven took over the fight slashing throught the tenticles madly, "remind me not to get you mad" mearth said as he watched raven's anger being released. there was a huge burst of flames coming from the other sword as he sliced of the creatures head both parts of the creature where now burning slowly... as he turned around slowly mearth saw his brothers eyes where filled with rage. but as he calmed down the flames of the sword died "how did you know how to do that?" mearth questioned his brother catiously. "I don't know..I guss I just felt the power..." mearth looked at his own sword "why don't you do that for me?" there was a pause then mearth started slaming the sword agenst the tree "I SAID TO TAKE THAT BACK!!!". "what is wrong with you?" raven asked freaked out "have you lost your mind?" "it called me a sissy!!!" mearth yelled now switching over to a big rock "I AM NOT!!!!"...
raven ignored his brother with his fude with his sword. he sat by samoria and waited for her to awaken. as he sat down the sheath of the snake sword bumped agenst samoria there was a faint flash she stiffend up but came back to relaxed as her eyes slowly opened "wha...what happend?" she asked yawning. "you where almost bird food" mearth said optomisticly "but the other bird saved you" he gestured to raven. "I'm the bird? whos the one who went for a trip?" raven gestured to the other tree where there was an indent where mearths body had hit. mearth softly blushed and sat down. raven now satisfied turned back to samoria "are you alright?" he asked softly. she smiled "I am now" and hugged raven close and whispered "thank you" she quickly let go realizing what she had just did. "I-I-I t-think I'll head h-home" she said stuttering and blushing madly. she quickly got up and sprinted home. raven was still siting there shocked at what had just happend. "its like all the books" mearth rolled his eyes "they always fall for the hero". "someone jellous?" he asked grining wide. mearth just let out a huff and said nothing else.
chapter 3: anchent enemys-the truth of raven
samoria walked in late at night "where have you been?" her father asked. "I was at the lake" samoria said inocently. "what where you doing at the lake?" he asked. "I was just bathing" she lied. "and what are these marks from?" he said grabing her left arm "don't lie" he said letting go "I know what happend" he gestured to a round object. "I senced you in danger and casted a spell to see if you where alright and I saw you...and the drow's boys" he sneared "I told you drow where evil" "not this one father, this one is diffrent!" she yelled. "I forbid you to go ever see you again!" he snapped, she ran off crying
mearth was sitting in a tree messing with his flute again "hey raven!" he yelled. "what do you want monkey?" raven replyed grining. "theres something I want to show you!" mearth called. "well?" raven asked behind him, mearth almost fell out of the tree "ok you realy need to stop doing that!" mearth yelled. "I learned something about the flute" mearth said grining. "well are you going to sit there or are you going to tell me?" raven asked. "no better...I'll show you" mearth placed the flute to his lips and started to play a soft melody. as he played a squirl took form on a close branch. raven just shruged "this what you wanted to show me? I'm going to the lake mabey samoria will be there" mearth stoped playing and jumped down "I'll join you" he said grining "I bet she would like me new trick" he grined. raven rolled his eyes "I bet she's seen so many squirls that its not going to do anything". "ya you may be right" mearth placed the flute to his lips and played the tune a bit quicker. a small wolf pup came from behind the tree. raven just shruged and walked off mearth chased after him.
at the lake...
samoria was laying agenst the tree that her and raven met sobing. she noticed raven and mearth coming she whiped her tears away and tried to stop crying. "hey samoria I got a new trick! wanna see!?" mearth asked excited. she nodded slowly. mearth could tell by her eyes that she had been crying so he thought deeply then got the perfect idea he placed the flute to his lips again and played the tune both slow and fast as he did a rabbit and squirl came out of the grass and started to play around infront of samoria. she bent down to pet them as she did her hand went through them. her eyes went wide and she fell back "what the!?". mearth stoped playing "they are fake" mearth laughed "I just thought that a small show would chear you up" he smiled softly. "h-how did you know I was sad?" she stuttered surprised "well your eyes are puffy, you've been crying" his smiled faded into a frown "whats wrong?" he asked sitting down. she looked over at raven "my dad knows about you two" she said slowly "he doesn't want me being around you two" she started to sob again. raven walked up to her and whiped away her tears "everythings going to be alright". mearths ears twitched "we aren't alone..." mearth said shivering "and its big". "right you are" a voice said coming out of the trees, it was samorias father! "I told you to stay away from these two!" he yelled at samoria. she put her head down and tears ran down her face. raven steped in "leave her alone" he said slowly. "stay out of this drow" he snaped at raven. raven glared at him, "what do you have agenst drow? expecialy one you never met!" samoria's father shot back "all drow are evil!". mearth steped ifront of raven "and what do you say about me?" he growled deeply. "and I know that you are a demon". mearths ears pirked up and his eyes went wide as his jaw droped "you...you what!?" mearth yelled. "what did I offend you?" samorias father smirked. "how do you know what I am?" mearth growled more. "the aura I feel around you" he laughed "what you don't know what you are?". mearth shook his head slowly looking down "I never knew..." "demons are no better then drow" samorias father said mearth looked up in anger "then you do know nothing of either!" mearth drew his sword and ran at him. samorias father closed his eyes for a second and muttered something under his breath. mearths body fell stiff to the ground. "wha-what the!?" mearth strugled to move but couldn't. ravens eyes flared up his skimitars where out in a flash and he walked over to samorias father "be careful" mearth said strugling to look up at his brother. samorias father started to bring out his sword. "no father please..." she begged. he pushed her away slightly "every drow must learn his place, and thats the ground!" he yelled. as he struck out at raven. there was a dance of blades and sparks as the two faught. then all of a sudden they couldn't move their blades and their hands went numb, they droped their weapons. out of the trees steped nevara he walked over to the elf first and put his blade up to his neck "who are you?" nevara asked. "fintz soitsa" he replyed. "well if you value your life and i would hate to take it away from you, then leave my boys alone" nevara said slowly lowering his blade. he released his spell and then helped mearth to his feet. mearth kept his eyes on the ground his tail tucked between his legs. nevara returned to the other two, "if you have problems agenst drow then take it out on me not my sons, but before you do know this: I despise my people just as much as you do. so if it will make you happy kill me right here" mearths eyes went wide "father!" he yelled. "you can't die!" fintz looked down "I can't do that..." nevara raised an eye brow. "your sons love you too much..." he started walking away. samoria walked up and hugged raven "I'll see you later" she followed her father. nevara looked at his two sons "I hope you know you two are in trouble, now get home! tomarow you will be busy".
